Yes he's got a white beard.
Yes he's got a red cloack and a red hat.
Yes he brings gifts and candy.
No this isn't SANTA!!!!
It's Sinterklaas. The old man comes from Spain on this steamboat and rides his white horse on the rooftops of our little country. Today, the 5th of December, is his birthday and this is celebrated with presents and songs all over the land.
The old man has been visiting our country for a hundred years and he still knows his way around thanks to his Pieten. Not only our country I might add, so he's a real busy man.
After today he'll hastily jump on his steamboat again so all the Sinterklaas stuff can make way for Santa Claus.
Wonder what he looks like? Well here's a helping Sinterklaas, not the real one ofcourse...

Want we zitten allemaal even recht.
Mischien heeft u nog even tijd.
Voordat u weer naar spanje rijdt.
Transaltion:
Sinterklaas come in with your helper
We're sitting straight up
Maybe you have some time for us.
Before you go back to Spain.
I never know what's more disgusting, him leaving presents and sweets in our shoes or Santa leaving them in your socks ^^
Edit: Actually he's origionally from Turkey. (sp?) |
